finance.yahoo.com is a good place to start if you're a beginner. It provides a lot of free information such as stock quotes, charting, stock screeners, company background information, etc. You can also create your own portfolio and keep track of your favorite stocks.

www.thestreet.com is also a good site to check out. It contains a lot of articles about the stock market which are updated daily. The commentary section is one of my favorites.

cbs.marketwatch.com is the financial website of CBS. The message boards are a good place to check out the latest buzz. Take a look also at the 'Investor Tools' section for a great stock screener.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) website has a list of online publications for investors. Look up the investor research and education section for topics such as analyzing analyst recommendations, how to obtain corporate reports, finding out how much executives of a company are paid, etc.

OneShare.com "The site that allows everyone to give stock ownership as a gift".  This is a great gift idea for birthdays and other special events. You can purchase a framed "single share" of stock. It's a great way to get young people interested in investing.

ShareBuilder.com is a place where you can buy stocks for just $4 with no minimum or inactivity fees.
